Flash animation

Flash is a great tool for providing a dynamic user interaction for websites. It’s also a robust platform for programming elaborate interactive environments or prototyping user interfaces for such disparate systems as interactive television or video on demand applications.

It’s not an answer to everything, and can cause some problems on older browsers,especially when combined with bad technologies like browser sniffing.

I’ve used it where appropriate, and in some fairly clever ways.

Flash Examples

Here are a few sample of the kind of work I’ve done in Flash. Unfortunately, since a lot of what I’ve done has been user interfaces that are still under non-disclosure statements, I can't show that much.

Scrolling film reel

On the left of this page you’ll see an example of a Flash animation with an interactive interface. It's not just a pretty animation; it‘s a fully interactive application. Go ahead and click on it. Change the direction of the scroll. Change the content of the images. Knock yourself out!

Analog/Digital clock

AT&T Interactive user interface

These designs for a proposed user interface were designed and implemented in conjunction with jcbD.

This was designed to be used as a consumer home set-top box interface, to be navigated by a standard remote control.
